ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Divadlo Ungelt

“At Ungelt, director Vít Vencl is associated with psychological dramas such as The Glass Ceiling and 'night, Mother. Although both plays deal with difficult subjects, he found in them the sharp humour characteristic of his work. This is why we decided to confront him with Keir McAllister's comedy The Bench. The celebrated Scottish stand-up comedian wrote it for himself (his character will be played here by Petr Stach) and for his friend Paul Sneddon, who is a generation older (Miroslav Hanuš). Its world premiere in 2018 was a direct hit. A nationwide tour followed, and McAllister definitively stepped beyond the shadow of being ‘just’ an entertainer. No wonder—The Bench excels in the same way as the finest stand-up routines, where you laugh at someone criticising you. I have encountered few similar works in contemporary drama that laugh at our flaws and pettiness with such grace. The Bench will therefore be the first satire you will see at Ungelt!”

Featuring P. Stach and M. Hanuš
