ABOUT PERFORMANCE
World-renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin is coming to Ostrava!
He is going to break down our traditional ideas through dance, music, and movement fantasy...
Ohad Naharin, one of the world's most prominent and sought-after choreographers, presents his production Hora at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre. Having its own rules in an imaginary pitch, the sheer joy of movement reaches the limits of human possibilities in Naharin's conception. Hora is a production full of inspiring surprises and astonishing contradictions, from the combination of which something new, extraordinarily magical, and amazing emerges. Naharin presents familiar themes and motifs in unexpected contexts, allowing our imaginations to run wild. This is why the compositions by Debussy or Strauss that we have heard so many times can become new music as well as the signifier hora can imply many things: the word signifies a natural elevation in Czech, a traditional folk dance in the Balkans, and an hour in Spanish.
Eleven dancers enter a green fluorescent space, the colour of which is traditionally perceived as a symbol of balance. However, we can also associate it with the typical image of an alien when complemented by the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
As an artistic director and choreographer, Naharin's work has influenced not only the Israeli Batsheva Dance Company, in which he has worked for thirty-three years, but also the global view of contemporary dance in general. Throughout his career, Naharin has established himself as a unique creator who brings his skill, talent, and innovative movement concept to Hora as well.
World premiere on 18 May 2009 - Jerusalem Theatre, Israel
Co-produced by Montpellier Danse 2010 and Lincoln Center Festival, New York
The production is implemented under the auspices of the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Czech Republic.
