ABOUT THE SUBSCRIPTION
The second group will bring, besides the baroque gem, Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera Platée, which according to available sources has never been performed in Prague before, and for which we collaborate with the acclaimed ensemble Collegium 1704. Additionally, we will present György Ligeti's unique opera Le Grand Macabre as part of the Opera Nova festival.
However, the cycle will kick off with Smetana's The Secret, his most sophisticated opera, which we will celebrate in 2024, marking 200 years since his birth. Directed by Ondřej Havelka, the opera will bring to life the feud between the Malín and Kalina families, which can only be resolved by true love.
Cherubini's Medea will revive the ancient tragedy of the unfortunate woman who is betrayed but does not hesitate to seek very cruel revenge. We will remain with great stories until the end of the season.
You can also look forward to Gounod's Faust, which presents perhaps the most famous musical adaptation of the legend of the doctor who summons the devil. The production will be directed by Jan Philipp Gloger, who collaborates with opera houses throughout Europe.
We will bid farewell with the opera Lear by Berlin composer Aribert Reimann, based on the tragedy of W. Shakespeare. Created in 1978 by commission of the Bavarian State Opera, it will bring you a profound experience and a powerful story of human folly, the desire for power, and the collapse of a kingdom.
