Conductor, composer, double bass player, pianist – this year’s curator Petr Popelka can boast all of these attributes and will reveal multiple aspects of his artistry to Czech Chamber Music Society audiences. The first concert of Series II will feature his Clarinet Quintet and we will hear him as a double bass player at the February concert.
A prominent foreign guest for this series will be the New Zealand Quartet, which is bringing music by the New Zealand composer Gareth Farr to Dvořák Hall. They will also play Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1. Among the Czech ensembles are the Pražák Quartet and Trio Bohémo, the laureate of the 2023 Czech Chamber Music Society Award. The January concert will then feature the Czech Philharmonic Winds led by Ondřej Vrabec in a diverse programme of music by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Aaron Copland, and Gustav Holst.
