PRELUDIUM / Jazz suite / Bolling vs. Shostakovich
Shostakovich and jazz?! Indeed. The versatile pianist and composer had many faces. He wrote symphonic and film scores, theatre and ballet music. From the individual numbers of various works intended for the screen, the composer's friend Levon Atovmyan put together a suite that did not see its premiere until 1988. But then the popular violinist André Rieu took up one of its movements, the Waltz, and his recording became one of the greatest hits. This decadent waltz gained even more popularity after director Stanley Kubrick used it in the mystery drama Eyes Wide Shut.
