A compelling story taking place on three continents and in four languages! The award-winning Lebanese-Canadian writer Wajdi Mouawad and his story to be staged on a Czech stage for the first time ever.

At the beginning of the story, fate brings two young people together. However, the Israeli-German genetic researcher Eitan falls into a coma during a terrorist attack in Jerusalem, while his girlfriend Wahida, Moroccan historian, must uncover Eitan’s family secret which brought them into Israel. Will the relationship survive all the disagreements and prejudice of more than a century of hatred, war, and terror on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

A play of multiple themes brings up the topics of remembering our roots, heritage of wars and crimes of the 20th century, but most importantly, the play challenges you to think about the power of finding oneself. The play highlights the resilience of the human spirit when facing obstacles. The symbol of birds represents freedom, escape, the characters’ desire to liberate themselves from their past. Family traumas are not inscribed in our chromosomes!

Czech premiere on 1 February 2025 at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre
