ABOUT
You have the chance to step into the world of Brahms symphonies thanks to this project by the chief conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. On the first evening, under the baton of Petr Popelka, you will be immersed in two symphonic works that represent the pinnacle of Romanticism and brought a new dimension to classical music.
Symphony No. 1 in C Minor will be performed at the beginning of the evening. In it, Brahms portrayed his personal struggle with the legacy of Ludwig van Beethoven, creating a symphony full of dramatic contrasts, dark tones and moments of triumph. It is a work that reflects not only strength and struggle, but also hope and victory, which gradually rises to the final celebratory finale.
In the second part of the concert you will be treated to Symphony No. 2 in D Major, in which Brahms musically created a world full of freshness, calm and lyrical melodies. In contrast to the first symphony, it is lighter in tone, with brightened harmonies and a cheerful rhythm. Even so, it impresses with its depth. Brahms combines the beauty of nature, inner peace and the desire for harmony.
The concert will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava.
