Description
ABOUT PERFORMANCE
Janáček’s celebrated "philosophical revue" on animals and people, desire, disillusionment with life and wise atonement with eternal Nature. The Cunning Little Vixen, inspired by the newspaper serial story of Rudolf Těsnohlídek and Stanislav Lolek, transposed in 1921-1923 with great understanding, feeling and hyperbole into operatic form, is a title possessing significant potential to captivate the audience. Owing to its wit, profound ideas and emotionality, the work speaks to adults, while children are enchanted by its picturesque nature and exquisite scenery.
Despite being one of the most famous Czech operas and part of the standard global repertoire, in our country Janáček’s work is still not as popular (perhaps due to the ingrained prejudice against the composer’s music) as comparable titles such as The Bartered Bride, Rusalka and The Devil and Kate.
