ABOUT

Conductor Tomáš Hanus will open the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra’s new season with the overture-fantasy Romeo and Juliet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. At this gala evening you will hear Concerto No. 2 in G Minor for Violin and Orchestra by Sergei Prokofiev.

The concert will feature the outstanding South Korean violinist Inmo Yang. His captivating playing has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious stages – in the upcoming season with the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and in previous years with the Orchestre National de France, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and at Carnegie Hall. At the Opening Concert, he will perform one of the most technically demanding works in the violin repertoire, a piece that also carries profound emotional depth.

The second part of the gala concert will feature two symphonic poems by Richard Strauss: Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks. Strauss portrayed Don Juan in a very emotional way - the orchestral score is full of passionate drama and fast tempos. The symphonic poem Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks is a contrasting piece.  He vividly portrays the legendary trickster and his comic stunts with humour and irony.

The concert will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava.
