ABOUT
The Czech Nonet, one of the oldest chamber ensembles in the world, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. This exceptional ensemble, whose unique instrumental composition (violins, viola, cello, double bass and wind quintet) enables an extraordinary variety of sounds, gained an international reputation soon after its formation.
The ensemble, founded in 1924 by students at the Prague Conservatory, inspired the creation of more than three hundred compositions dedicated to it by important composers such as Bohuslav Martinů, Josef Bohuslav Foerster and Sergei Prokofiev. Thanks to the masterful skills of the ensemble members, often also well-known soloists, the Czech Nonet has travelled the world and performed at prestigious festivals.
In the 1930s it worked closely with Czech Radio, whose members formed the core of the ensemble. This period of stability allowed the ensemble to flourish artistically and strengthened it to such an extent that it continues to be one of the world's leading chamber ensembles a century later.
Come and enjoy an extraordinary musical experience by an ensemble whose history and present are full of inspiration and mastery!
The concert will be broadcast live on the Czech Radio D-dur programme.
