Description
The history of Czech Radio began in a canvas tent in Prague-Kbely in the erstwhile Czechoslovakia in 1923. Since then, its broadcasts have developed dramatically; from live broadcasts in a tent to digital broadcasting, from a private company to an independent public broadcaster that is part of the European Broadcasting Union. Czech Radio is also the organiser of several competitions and festivals. Autumn is the time of the Prix Bohemia Radio international festival of radio programming. The international Concertino Praga competition is designed for young musicians and has been a starting point for many famous and internationally renowned virtuosos. The programming offered by the radio includes the “Vlnohraní” educational musical project which combines concerts with interactive elements and brings classical music to children and adults in an entertaining form. The Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Children’s Choir, the Disman Children’s Radio Ensemble, the Gustav Brom Radio Big Band and the Brno Radio Folk Instrument Orchestra also operate under the auspices of the radio. The Czech Radio Foundation has been established to support charity projects, the best-known project of which is “Světluška” which supports blind children and adults.
