The Spring

Elegant doctor Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová) works in a remote district hospital in the mid-1980s. Trapped in an exhausted marriage and a stagnant career, she devotes most of her time to her patients. She brings children into the world and terminates unwanted pregnancies. She also performs sterilizations on Roma women without them fully understanding the consequences. A new friendship with Agáta, a young and spontaneous orderly, makes Ingrid see things in a different light. Will she start questioning the rules she has apathetically followed until now? Ivan Ostrochovský’s powerful drama opens an unresolved chapter of Czechoslovak history, when the state decided on the possibility of having children.
