Francouzský večer

ABOUT THE CONCERT

The Latin name A N I M I S captures the artistic philosophy of flautist Alexandra Piskořová and pianist Šimon Zajac. Together they create a dialogue between two equal musical voices, revealing not only virtuoso technique but above all the profound inner worlds of the composers whose works they perform. Their interpretations are distinguished by technical precision, deep musical sensitivity and exceptional artistic rapport, which have earned them recognition from audiences and critics alike.

The chamber duo is among the emerging ensembles on today’s Czech classical music scene. Their shared musical journey began in 2022, when they first performed together as part of a chamber trio. In the same year they won a laureate prize at the prestigious international Concertino Praga competition and were invited to perform on the Talent Stage of the renowned Dvořák Prague International Music Festival.

Since 2023 the musicians have performed as the permanent concert duo A N I M I S. Although they continue their studies at prestigious institutions in different countries—Alexandra Piskořová at the Mozarteum University Salzburg under Univ. Prof. Michael Martin Kofler, and Šimon Zajac at the University of Ostrava under Prof. Lukáš Michel, ArtD.—their close artistic partnership continues to flourish.

The duo has already given many successful performances in the Czech Republic and abroad. A major milestone came in 2025, when Alexandra Piskořová won second prize in the soloist-with-orchestra category at the prestigious Città di Padova international competition. This success brought the duo an invitation from the important Italian music organisation AGIMUS, under whose auspices they toured Venice, Padua and Abano Terme.

In summer 2026 they were selected as finalists of the Premio della Musica di Verona 2026. Their final concert will take place in autumn 2026 at the Società Letteraria di Verona.

Thanks to its distinctive artistic qualities, A N I M I S is increasingly sought after by chamber-music societies and concert organisers. The duo currently holds invitations from a number of chamber associations and regularly appears at major cultural events in the Czech Republic.
