Divadelní 5 s M.Řezníčkem

ABOUT THE EVENT

How independent can media organisations be when politicians decide on their funding? What situation does Czech Television face as a fundamental change to its financing draws near? What will it mean for Czech Television and its output—and for us, its viewers?

The guest of the next Divadelní 5 will be Martin Řezníček, journalist, presenter, head of the foreign news desk and currently one of the most prominent faces of Czech Television. He also worked for the Czech service of the BBC, spent four years as Czech Television’s correspondent in the United States and received the Ferdinand Peroutka Award in 2021.

The discussion will not be limited to licence fees and the state of public-service media undergoing major upheaval. How is journalism practised today in a world of social media, disinformation and artificial intelligence? How difficult is it to retain the audience’s trust? And is presenting the main news programme really the pinnacle of a journalist’s career?

With Martin Řezníček, we will also return to the United States, where he witnessed Donald Trump’s rise while working as a correspondent. We will look behind the scenes of moments watched by millions in the Czech Republic. In 2023, he presented both the presidential Super Debate and the final duel between Petr Pavel and Andrej Babiš.

How does a presenter prepare for the country’s most-watched political debate? What happens when the cameras go off? And what does working in public-service journalism mean today?

A conversation about media, politics, America and journalism behind the scenes.

Hosted by Jan David.

NOTICE: The discussion will be recorded for the Beskydské divadlo podcast.
