ABOUT THE CONCERT
The Stadler Clarinet Quartet was formed in 1994 by students of the University of Ostrava and members of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, and from the outset established a firm place on the Czech and international scene. The ensemble is named after clarinettist Anton Stadler, a close friend of W. A. Mozart for whom a number of essential works in the clarinet repertoire were written.
The quartet’s repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the present and includes jazz and modern compositions. Its distinctive colours come from the combination of different types of clarinet—from the E-flat clarinet and basset horn to the bass clarinet—creating an exceptionally varied sound world.
The ensemble regularly appears at major festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad and collaborates with Czech Radio and Czech Television. Its recordings and premieres of contemporary works confirm the high level of interpretation that has earned it an established place on concert stages.
Alongside classical repertoire, the quartet also explores cross-genre projects, combining classical music with jazz and other styles, expanding the possibilities of the clarinet quartet and appealing to a wide audience.
