ABOUT THE CONCERT
Karel Zeman’s first feature film, Journey to the Beginning of Time (1955), immediately became a cult classic for generations of children and adults. Its educational yet thrilling adventure is inseparable from Zeman’s masterful effects and animated prehistoric creatures — especially the wonderful puppet mammoths and dinosaurs.
The film’s distinctive music was composed by Emil František Burian, with music direction and sound design by Zdeněk Liška, one of the great figures of Czech film music. Burian’s score will be performed live by the Prague Symphony Orchestra under Michaela Rózsa Růžičková, a specialist in film-with-live-orchestra performances. Smetana Hall becomes a cinema once again!
