ABOUT THE CONCERT
Niccolò Paganini’s Twenty-Four Caprices for Solo Violin, are among the most demanding works in the violin repertoire. In them, the composer explores a wide range of virtuosic violin techniques, while giving each caprice its own distinctive musical character. These caprices are much more than a display of technical brilliance: they form a cycle full of expressive contrast, emotion, humour and imagination.
Performing all twenty-four caprices in a single evening calls for exceptional interpretive mastery as well as considerable physical and mental endurance, which is why it’s often likened to a violinist’s marathon. Pavel Šporcl has devoted himself to Paganini’s music for many years. Tonight, it takes center stage.
