ABOUT THE CONCERT

This evening welcomes us into the quiet spaces of the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia, where the colours of wind instruments meet the depth of visual art. The focus is Ferdinand Engelmüller’s painting Cemetery with Cypresses, whose calm, contemplative beauty is echoed in the programme. Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, conceived as a tribute to friends lost in the First World War, strongly resonates with the painting’s mood. The music does not imitate the image; it shares its search for melancholy and hope.

The concert opens with an educator’s introduction to Ferdinand Engelmüller’s Cemetery with Cypresses (1918), presented by Monika Švec Sybolová.
