ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The 79th International Folk Festival in Strážnice and the 42nd Children's Folk Festival in Dětská Strážnice are among the most significant and oldest folk festivals in Europe.
The International Folk Festival in Strážnice was first held in 1946, and since 1973, it has also gained the status of a non-governmental international organization within CIOFF. The festival takes place regularly on the last weekend of June.
Performances are held on three large amphitheaters in the extensive castle park, within the park itself, inside the castle building, in the area of the Strážnice open-air museum, and in the streets of the town of Strážnice.
Visitors can enjoy performances not only from local groups but also from international ensembles. They also have the opportunity to actively participate in the evaluation of performances of the Slovak verbuňk dancers. Every year, both visitors and hundreds of performers from both near and far look forward to this annual gathering. The festival has become a traditional meeting place for friends of folk traditions and entertainment.
