The title of the world-famous verse drama from the pen of Edmund Rostand in a dance adaptation? Of course! The main character of the play, the famous swordsman and poet Cyrano, invites to be captured in a ballet processing .

After all, Cyrano’s Tale has already been performed as a ballet on stage, and we can all recall the famous production by the French legend Roland Petita. The well-known story is not only about deep love, but above all about the contradiction of inner and outer beauty. The nosy, ungainly and proud Cyrano, a defender of honour and love with a rich soul, and the beautiful but empty young man Christian love the same woman, the beautiful Roxane. She chooses physical beauty in Christian, only to discover at the end of the story that she has loved the beauty of Cyrano’s soul all her life.

The NdB Ballet has long planned to approach Jiří Bubeníček, one of the world’s most outstanding ballet interpreters, who has combined his career with the Hamburg Ballet of John Neumeier and the Dresden Ballet of the Semper Opera. Today, after retiring from an active dancing career, Jiří Bubeníček is an established choreographer with his own work performed by ballet companies in Stockholm, Rome, Dortmund, Hannover, Florence, Zagreb and Tokyo. Brno audiences had the opportunity to see his ballet Doctor Zhivago performed by the National Ballet of Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the Dance Brno 100 festival.

Jiří Bubeníček is a choreographer with a reputation as a great dance storyteller, so we can look forward to a contemporary action ballet that will bring to life on our stage the New Romantic hero Cyrano of Bergerac in his attractive choreography and direction, set design by his brother Otto Bubeníček and costumes by Nadina Cojocaru.
