ABOUT TOUR

A unique sightseeing route along a part of the former Jesuit dormitory Klementinum takes you to the Astronomical Tower and the annex that connects it to the northern wing of the Clementine complex. In it, with a guide, you can take a look at the Baroque Library, described as the most beautiful library hall in the world. The next stop on the sightseeing route is the Meridian Hall with period astronomical instruments on the 2nd floor of the Astronomical Tower. From its top, the giant Atlas has been looking down for three hundred years, carrying the sky full of stars on his shoulders. After all, they were never missing in Klementin - in star atlases or in its halls, where even W. A. ​​Mozart himself walked and played. The highlight of the tour is the ascent to the walkway of the longest continuously measuring meteorological station in the Czech lands.

• 50% off admission every day for tours at 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Children under 5 years old have free entry. Reduced admission is intended for children 6-15 years old, young people under 26 years old, seniors over 65 years old and people with disabilities. Persons with a ZTP/P card with 1 companion have free entry. A family ticket is valid for 2 adults and up to 4 children.

Children under 15 may only visit the facility when accompanied by an adult. Young people aged 16 to 26 and seniors aged 65 and older must provide proof of age with a valid ID. The guided tour includes 172 steps; there is no elevator available.

includes insight into the Baroque Library, the Meridian Hall and the Astronomical Tower.

• The baroque library hall is decorated with beautiful frescoes on the theme of science and art. The hall houses a collection of foreign language printed theological literature and several historically valuable large globes. The library fund includes 27,000 volumes mainly in the field of theology. To maintain a constant temperature and humidity, visitors are allowed only to look into the hall, not to enter it.
  
  
• The Meridian Hall is located on the 2nd floor of the tower. This unique room was previously used as a huge camera obscura, where true noon was determined using a stretched string. In the walls of the Meridian Hall there are 2 original astronomical instruments, the so-called wall quadrants used to measure the position of the stars.
  
  
• In the Astronomical Tower, 68 m high, from which there is a wonderful view of the center of Prague, there is an exhibition of historical measuring instruments and curiosities about the history of the tower. Originally, the lookout tower was used for astronomical observations from 1751 and retained this function until 1938. Since 1752, it has also been associated with meteorological measurements, which became regular and continuous starting from 1775. It was also from here that true noon was announced to the people of Prague for more than eighty years (1842–1928).

The Klementina campus is under the administration of the National Library of the Czech Republic, the tour is run by Prague City Tourism.
