SĽUK: Genezis

The music and dance program, accompanied by a film screening, was created based on selected biblical themes from the Book of Genesis.

The fascinating story of the gradual creation of the world—from the creation of Adam and Eve to the seventh day of rest—provides scope for a fresh, playful, and imaginative approach to the various themes. By expelling them from the Garden of Eden, the authors also reveal the dark side of humanity on stage. Moral corruption is replaced by God’s wrath—the similarity to the present day is no coincidence for the creators, so SĽUK consciously poses many unsettling questions to the audience.

Creative animations with large-screen projections and captivating performances by the SĽUK dance ensemble are complemented by humorous theatrical performances and spoken commentary by actors František Kovář, Petra Molnárová, and René Štúr.

The goal of the Genesis project is to help lovers of theater, music, and dance find their way to folk art and folklore. In the musical arrangements, choreography, lyrics, projections, set design, and costumes, the creators have focused on contemporary staging techniques. Nevertheless, the stylistic treatment of the theme clearly draws on traditional folk culture as its primary source of inspiration.
