Steps to the New World • Beethoven in Teplice

Beethoven was working on his great Seventh Symphony while visiting the spa in Teplice in 1811–1812. At its Vienna premiere (1813), the audience was so fascinated by the slow movement that they applauded until it was repeated. The work is famous for its rhythmic energy and dramatic build-ups. Each movement introduces a unique element that keeps the whole symphony in constant motion.

Description

Beethoven was working on his great Seventh Symphony while visiting the spa in Teplice in 1811–1812. Often played separately, the beautiful slow movement so fascinated the audience at the Vienna premiere on 8 December 1813 that they applauded until it was repeated. When the movement begins, we get the impression of a simple march-like motion, and it is incredible what beauty Beethoven then  develops from it. In fact, in all the other movements, we can find an element, different each time, that sets the music in motion. The Seventh Symphony is sometimes called the "Apotheosis of the Dance".  Sedmé symfonii se někdy mluví dokonce jako o „apoteóze tance“. It is worth exploring.

The programme is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The programme will not be supplied with English subtitles.
