ABOUT THE GUIDED TOUR
The first guided tour of the exhibition will be led by its author, Michaela Kuthanová.
The exhibition focuses on women and men writers who left socialist Czechoslovakia for political reasons but continued to exert a significant influence on Czech cultural and literary life through their work abroad. The first, fact-based section explores the workings of literary life in exile and uses period exhibits to present the most important book titles, publishing houses, cultural magazines and personalities involved in publishing Czech literature abroad.
The second section focuses on specific works by writers in exile and offers visitors a closer encounter with their texts and life stories.
Archival documents and books are complemented by works of art, illustrations and examples of independent work by artists who contributed to the visual form of publications produced in exile, including Zbyněk Sekal, Miroslav Šašek, Josef Šíma, Běla Kolářová and Jiří Kolář.
The exhibition also features an interactive section where visitors can find specific authors and projects on a map of Czech exile, explore the work of Radio Free Europe editors, or watch the documentary Behind the Iron Curtain, which captures the memories of prominent figures of Czech exile.
