DRACULA – Premiere

ABOUT THE MUSICAL

Following the announced final performance on 14 June 2026, Hudební divadlo Karlín decided to take a bold step and infuse the most famous Czech vampire with “new, oxygenated blood”. The autumn season will therefore bring Dracula back with state-of-the-art lighting, immersive sound and dynamic choreography that follows in the legendary footsteps of Richard Hes.

“When Dracula was created, technical possibilities were in their infancy compared with today. We can now take the set design to a level we could not even have dreamed of in 1995,” says Egon Kulhánek, producer and director of Hudební divadlo Karlín, who was involved in the birth of the original production. “However, do not expect us to deny its roots. The essential pillars – Karel Svoboda’s immortal music, lyrics by Zdeněk Borovec and Richard Hes’s libretto – remain untouched. At the same time, we are looking for a new generation of performers who will give these iconic roles a modern face.”

What can audiences look forward to?

• A refreshed visual concept: Set design using the latest projection technologies and lighting design.
• Immersive sound: A sound experience that draws the audience directly into the action at the Transylvanian castle.
• A live orchestra: Karel Svoboda’s music will once again be heard in full force, performed by the outstanding orchestra of Hudební divadlo Karlín.
• A dream cast: A combination of legendary faces associated with the musical and new talents selected through auditions.

Dracula is not merely a musical; it is a legend coming back to life. Come and see that its story is as eternal as Dracula himself.

The new gala premiere at Hudební divadlo Karlín will take place on 18 November 2026.
