Description
ABOUT PERFORMANCE
Maxim Gorky’s Vassa Zheleznova is a psychological study of a “transformation of the world”, a situation similar to that which we may witness today. We seek our personal and social roles in a historical moment, when “nothing is as it used to be”, learning where our indolence has taken us and dreading our own responsibility.
The play captures the fate of a specific family, yet it is rather a model of the surrounding world. We are staging the original version of the play, which Gorky was compelled to rewrite upon Stalin’s command, to make it more in line with the state ideology.
