Description
ABOUT PERFORMANCE
After more than twenty years, the last of the trio of famous Tchaikovsky ballets Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty, is returning to our repertoire. An immortal work, inspired by Charles Perrault’s Sleeping Beauty, was created by Marius Petipa with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
The premiere was in 1890 at the czarist Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. It is perhaps the most challenging ballet in all aspects. Its music and dancing difficulty puts enormous demands on the performers, the opulence and pomposity of stage and costume settings, as well as for the theatre’s budget. But the result is always worth it. Only a few theatres and ballet companies with a good artistic and economic background are able to perform this cornerstone of the classical ballet.
Our production will draw from the Petersburg ballet tradition, choreographed by the Russian choreographer and ballet master Bakhram Yuldashev. For more than a hundred years generations of spectators have come to admire the fairy tale of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré, who over their destinies battled the forces of good and evil, the Lilac Fairy and the evil Carabosse. Tchaikovsky’s wonderful music, Petipa’s brilliant choreographic composition along with the fairy tale setting and performances of our company and soloists promise the highlight of the ballet season already in the spring.
