ABOUT PERFORMANCE

“And even if the excavator comes to shred the soil in the morning again, I know that it is possible to win! Radegast, you see it! Victory! Guys, this beer is on me!”

On a pathway heading for somewhere, a stone building was built a long time ago—a pub. A sanctuary of all those who are thirsty and starving, a place where you may feel a sense of belonging to a joyful community of friends, or enjoy the silence… It feels as the pub has been standing there for ages and shall remain there forever.
One day, an ambitious plan, with which a new mayor comes, puts all the certainties on a shaky ground—the pub must be destroyed in order to make space for something better, something state of the art, simply “something for people”.
For this reason, a group of the most loyal habitués decide to take care of this situation despite the danger of losing their own lives. The words and promises that were spoken out loud in the sanctuary cannot be underestimated, so the habitués have to deal with a situation that is more complicated than saving the pub—they have a chance to affect the whole mankind. All they have to do is to come up with a solution of what exactly is the “something” that shall really serve to people.

The title Something for People is a funny parable exploring the meaning of the world (the world of pubs). The author of the play, the artistic director of drama NDM, wrote it for particular actors, for a particular time, and for a particular place in which the play is to be performed—in the theatre club of the Jiří Myron Theatre that is situated right under the roof, which means very close to the sky and to the god of beer Radegast.
